"So late on November 5th, 2024, when it became clear that Trump was going to win in some bizarre landslide that saw swing states vote blue down-ballot but Trump at the top I knew it was time to leave the platform I'd fallen in love with."
<s>Nothing at all fishy about that. The voters have spoken. Move along, citizen, or receive your beating.</s>
Welcome to Substack. Glad to see you here. I followed you on Twitter, and I enjoy reading your content.
I too deactivated my Twitter in the last few days,, and the relief I felt when I finally saw the blue confirmation screen was palpable. Yet, at the same time, my heart was pounding and I was shaking a bit.
Now? I feel free. And Substack is a great platform for those of us who enjoy writing in longer form. I had paid for verified status on Twitter for awhile, even though my tweets were in protected status. Done with all that nonsense. Thank goodness.
Like you, I sent DMs to some folks, but I used a block of text that I'd written and pasted it in. It refers these select people to my profile here.
I'd already had experience with walking away from a social media platform. In 2012, I walked away from Facebook. It was being used to stalk and harass me, by a horrifically abusive ex and the techno nerd girlfriend. There was physical stalking dovetailed with it, including a webcam installed outside my home, and a GPS beacon attached to the underside of my car. (Cops shrugged, of course.)
I'm grateful I have given up my need for the dopamine hit via "likes" or "shared" or "retweets". Returning to my love of long form reading, both physical books and here, as well.
I'm finally getting serious about writing the book I've been contemplating and researching about for years, on the subject of #JoyConsciousness. Which is about being mindfully present with the moments of authentic joy in daily life. Even small things, like sunrise or the first cup of coffee. Taking a few deep breaths in that place, and feeling the body respond to the peaceful energy... We are going to need such skills as essential tools to survive this societal madness.

Good job 👍. Hope many more will too.

It’s awesome that you are writing! Keep me posted on your progress. You will need beta readers after all.
Thank you for your very kind reply. Wishing you a day and week infused with moments of authentic joy. All my best to you and yours. Namasté 🫶
I deactivated my main profile and will deactivate my writer profile soon. 🫣
Don’t have a writer account. Happy I didn’t bother.
I thought it would help but since I started it a year ago, I missed the mark to fit into the skewed algo. 😭
