Are women equal to men? On the surface, it’s an absurd question. Over generalized and lacking specifics or criteria to draw a conclusion. This question is nonetheless constantly kicked about like a badly inflated football. It’s a question that has been asked for centuries and the responses ranged from laughter to violence. Why? Because it threatens one group's privilege. The same thing happens when you look at racial, religious, or economic equality. People fear equality because they fear losing their privilege, their property, or their power. The simple truth is that there will never be equality until that fact is addressed and somehow put to rest.

Since the viral post on TikTok about being in the woods and running into bears, guys, and whether women feel safe in public spaces, social media has been full of angry men. My Instagram feed just this morning was full of guys angry over a viral post by a woman who proclaims that women choose to be alone and guys don’t. If you think my first comment is irrelevant, you have not been paying attention.

About seven years ago, right before my illness, my Facebook account was hacked and taken from me. Meta did zero to help, and so I walked away from it. The hard part was that I had about a thousand former students there and I lost touch with most of them. Two days ago I started a new account, but it’s sad because that history is gone. Sure, I have the data, but it’s not the same at all. I think I’ll stick it out for now, but it’s like visiting a house you used to live in. It’s just the ghosts that remain.

For the folks who just said “wait, what illness?” Oh boy, you have some catching up to do. You can start here, here, and maybe here. There’s a book in the works but this is the TL;DR version.
